My research on media and politics
My experience as a documentary and non-profit photographer informed my research trajectory, as I used photography to understand toxic experiences in communities near industrial communities and later analyzed videos published to social media by Cuban activists.

My dissertation research focused on the use of video activism to counter Cuban state narratives. Through this work I center the activism of the San Isidro Movement, which destabilized the Cuban government in 2020-2021 and used art, music, and video to help incite the largest civic protests in 30 years.

In this chapter I analyzed the use of visual media using geolocation data on Twitter to understand trends in political messaging targeting Miami-Dade County, Florida.

In this chapter I discuss how I used photography, specifically photodrives, to uncover resident perspectives about industrial development Western Kentucky.
